Liner Measurement Guide

How to Identify Your Above Ground Pool Liner Type
Before ordering a replacement liner, you need to determine which type you currently have. To do this, look under the top rail or coping around the edge of the pool. You may need to remove a small section (carefully) to see how the liner attaches to the pool wall.
The way the liner connects will tell you which type you have:
1. Overlap Liner
What it is:
The liner folds over the top of the pool wall and hangs down on the outside. It’s held in place by combing/coping strips.
How to identify it:
If you can see liner material hanging over the outside of the pool wall under the top rail, it’s an overlap liner.
2. Beaded Liner (Standard)
What it is:
The liner has a bead at the top that snaps into a track (called a bead retainer) installed along the pool wall.
How to identify it:
Look for a track along the inside top of the pool wall where the liner snaps in. The liner does not go over the wall.
3. U / J Hook Liner
What it is:
The liner has a hook-shaped edge that fits directly over the top of the pool wall (like an upside-down “U” or “J”).
How to identify it:
If the liner hooks directly over the wall edge — without a track and without hanging down the outside — it’s a U/J hook liner.
Quick Summary
- Hangs over the outside wall? → Overlap
- Snaps into a track? → Beaded
- Hooks directly over the wall? → U/J Hook
Identifying this correctly ensures you order the right replacement liner.
